Well...

After install "K-Lite codec pack 4.80" in 10 computers, 5 of them are in trouble with MP3 and certain software. No problems with the other 5.

"Windows Media Player" open without problem MP3 files, but "PowerPoint 2000" and "PhotoStory 3" (both from Microsoft) show this:

*** "ISN'T A VALID MUSIC FILE" ***

They only permit WAV music files, but before "K-Lite codec pack 4.80" MP3 work without problem.

I try this:

* Uninstall and reinstall "K-lite codeck pack 4.80"
* Uninstall "K-lite codeck pack 4.80" and install "K-lite codeck pack 4.85"
* Uninstall "K-lite codeck pack 4.85" and install "K-lite codeck pack 4.75"
* Uninstall "K-lite codeck pack 4.75" and install only "Lame MP3 codec"
* Uninstall all audio/video codecs in the computer.
* Uninstall and reinstall "PhotoStory 3".
* Uninstall and reinstall "PowerPoint 200"

At this moment MP3 files don't work with "PowerPoint 2000" and "PhotoStory 3": "ISN'T A VALID MUSIC FILE" sad.gif

I have installed "Power Point 2007" and MP3 works fine. The problem is only in "PowerPoint 2000" and "PhotoStory"

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... ANY IDEA??? WHAT CAN I DO??? WHERE IS THE SOLUTION???

Thanks and sorry for my "poor" english.

* Uninstall all audio/video codecs in the computer.
That includes many items that belong to a 'clean' Windows installation. Congratulations, you now have broken your Windows installation.

The codec pack did not cause your problem. The problem is completely unrelated to it.

Windows uses its own codecs for MP3 playback. Those MS codecs dislike certain ID3 tags in MP3 files. It also dislikes VBR audio.
Convert your files to .wav.

First of all: Thanks for help me.

Two: "Convert files to WAV" // OK, i knew this procedure. Very simple. But i don't want a "broken" system, I want to repair the original state: I want that MP3 can work with Photostory and PowerPoint 2000.

Three: "Windows uses its own codecs for MP3 playback. Those MS codecs dislike certain ID3 tags in MP3 files. It also dislikes VBR audio" // It's no possible reinstall de MP3 windows codec? How can i do?

Three: "Congratulations, you now have broken your Windows installation" // Well... I attempted this but, after, with a previous security copy, the system goes back.

Four: "The codec pack did not cause your problem" // All the computers works fine >> Installation of "K-Lite codeck pack" >> Five computers "K.O." with MP3 >> What is the reason for my problem then?

Thank you very much (and sorry for my "miserable" english)

PD: if the problem persist, i can clone the hard disk with another computer, but is better know the cause of problem.
