I use VirtualDub for video file work.
It seems I need to have LAME codec installed.
I downloaded the LAME 3.98 zip file, and uncompressed it .... instruction say right click on filw and slect install.
Unfortunatly when right click there is no install option ?
VISTA is 32 bit Ultimate on a Dell 2.4GHz Dimension.

With Vista Ultimate, the UAC and security are the tightest, That even drove whackers.
Is the file a exe. If so, right click and choose options, then compatibility. Check Run as administrator. Ok to confirm. Then run the installer. If the lame codec is just a codec, locate your VirtualDub folder (usually program files\virtualdub) look for the codecs or plugins folder underneath that and simply copy the codec file to that folder. Open VirtualDub and open the options, looking for something like 'lame codec path'. Enter the path you copied the lame codec to. Confirm by closing preferences. Close and restart VirtualDub.

Argonaut, are you trying to encode something?
yes ... .avi video files that need the sound track to be compressed to mpeg
Now got it working OK .... downloaded a different 'pack' and that installed and works fine.
