Hello Guys,

just a new guy here who needs help regarding installing Lame Codec under Windows 7 for encoding via VirtualDub, etc.

I could not get this codec work. I tried installing via INF-File -> right click -> install.
A small install-window appears and disappears within in a split second. No positiv effect.
Also trying install the ACM version did not work or batch-support install for register the .ax file in the windows registry.

I set UAC to the lowest level - without any positiv effect.

Does anyone have same problem or knows something about this problems?

Thanks in advance.

Locate the 'codecs' or 'plugins' folder underneath the VirtualDub program folder. Copy the dll file to this folder, granting permission at the prompt. When this is done, open VirtualDub, and open the configuration menu, and look for an item called "location of Lame codec" navigate to the folder which you copied the lame codec to, and select it.
Close VirtualDub, then re-open. You should now have lame encoding.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lester,

sorry but this does not work for VDub. Also in VDub you dont have any option to insert path where a codec is etc.

The best bet is to bring up the UI after copying in the lame encoder to the plugins folder. If this does not work you may need to contact program author. It might be a bug he'll need to fix

As far as i know, Vdub only can work with ACM version - it will not work with copying into the Vdub Folder. Or does it work on your system?
I found some other people who have exactly the same problem as i have.

I have Vista here. Win7 does things differently. I'll keep track of this issue. Contact programmer and see if he has a solution. Meantime try Right-Clicking the shortcut, and select properties, then compatibility check on run as administrator. Run in vista (or XP) mode. Then see what happens.

Well also different compatibility modes will not work...i will look further.

update:
I get Mp3 to work by using 64bit version of vdub - that version won´t work on vista 64bit for me - but the problem at this version - divx is not available - i think because of the only 32bit version of divx. They should released a 64bit version at last - this is s***!

There's a web service you should try at Media Convert

These have virtually all file formats and types available.

I got it to work on 32bit Windows 7.

1.Download lame from http://sourceforge.net/projects/lame/files/lame/
2.extract files
3.in folder ACM, right click on LameACM.inf, and install.
4.It will prompt you to find "lameACM.acm", which you can dload from http://www.codecs.com/LAME_ACM_Codec_download.htm
5.Happy days
