K-Lite Codec Pack issues Compatible with Win 7?

Having just installed Win 7 in my PC thereafter reinstall the latest K-Lite codec 5.3.0 (did not state Win 7 compatible) but problems arise.

(1) Videos files has no image preview on most especially MKVs

(2) Some MKVs cannot play properly such as no image / sound / cannot play

Side Qs. I do not know the actual setup for output of surround sound like Dolby Digital EX but prior to my Win 7 upgrades is Vista Busniess. But now all output are standard multichannel. If used together with MPC then the audio decoder be used for DD EX for music and movies. What is the correct setup to get the best of both forms. PS I using HDMI connection between home theatre and CPU.

Any other alternatives to K-Lite welcome but it must be able play most formats and output surround sound as music / videos.

Thanks.

Windows 7 uses its own decoders by default for some formats. Those do not work very well in some cases.

Set the preferred H.264 video decoder to ffdshow with this tool:
http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_preferr...ter_tweaker.htm
After that reboot. Then the thumbnails for .mkv files should get generated like they did in Vista.

If you want to output over HDMI, then you need to enable S/PDIF in the audio decoder.
