I downloaded Panasonic_DV_codec in order to use it together with VirtualDub on my "Vista computer"
Windows Mediaplayer then refused to load .AVI files.
Microsoft tells me that there is something wrong with my sound device.
Reading some threads on the forum I tried to find the videocodecs in The Sound and Audio devices
but I could not find any.
Searching through my C:disk I found the file pdvcodec.dll in Windows/system32 where I changed the name of the file.
Now Media Player works fine.
Two questions:
1 How to remove installed codec the proper way?
2 Are there any Panasonic_DV_codec which works on Vista?
Grateful for help on this matter.

Two questions:
1 How to remove installed codec the proper way?
To remove that codec, you'll need to go back to the original name. THe protection ware will need to be disabled before removal. Then hunt down the sound and video codecs control as an insurance. Open theuninstall programs area and look to see if there's an entry for "panasonic DV codec". If not then look in task manager and see if an entry is included in the programs and services tab. If these don't show Then run regedit and remove all instances of pdvcodec.dll, then delete the file manually from the folder. Restart the system
2 Are there any Panasonic_DV_codec which works on Vista? Currently I do not know of any. These change the properties of the WMplayer. Try using k-lite codec pack, which has a good dvcodec set.

Rename it back to pdvcodec.dll
Run this command from an elevated command prompt:
regsvr32 /u pdvcodec.dll
This will remove all references to the file from the Registry. After that you can remove the file.

Thanks Lester and asdf!
I renamed the pdvcodec.dll in system 32 to its proper name.
Checking in programs uninstall I only find my XVID codec, no panasonic codec.
Checking the registry I found the three keys for panasonic in a folder "dvsd" beside the folder XVID for the XVID codec.
Now I feel that I understand a little more about this things.
I have a great respect for working in the registry, thus I do not dare to use your command for the moment. I will save it for use when I know more about it.
I now know the location of the codec.
Removing will be the next step.
Thanks
