The free download for
XVID MPEG-4 (XVID)
available at
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDshow.htm
directed me for contact at
http://www.free-codecs.com/contact_us.htm
directed me to this forum.
I tried to run the preview for "Celestine Prophecy" and recieved the message that
XVID MPEG-4 (XVID)
codec was not installed.
Windows Vista directed me to search for the codec.
I chose
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDshow.htm
from the list and downloaded
ffdshow-rev3200-20100112.zip
opting to save the download rather than open the download.
ffdshow-rev3200-20100112.zip
contains 2 files
ffdshow-rev3200_20100112_xxl.exe
and
Free-Codecs.txt
Questions:
1) Would choosing to open rather than save automatically have installed the codec
XVID MPEG-4 (XVID) ?
2) If I run
ffdshow-rev3200_20100112_xxl.exe
directly from the .zip file, will it install
XVID MPEG-4 (XVID)
to the proper directory?
3) What does running
ffdshow-rev3200_20100112_xxl.exe
actually do?
TIA

FFDshow.exe installs ffdshow. You will need to configure the video part under the vfw section to activate the xvid option. It may not be labeled exactly like that. Xvid is an mp4 variant, so be sure all mp4 options are activated. If unsure, you can add the xvid codec itself from free-codecs.com, under the link koepis xvid codec.
