Problems with Acronis Workstation 8 Images don't seem to compress....?

I've been using Acronis True Image Workstation for quite a while now to backup and take image snapshots of my PC hard drives, which I back up onto a 1 TB external drive.

I have 1 drive which has 180 GB on it. Yesterday I went to back it up and chose the "High" compression level, which stated it estimates the image size would compress to 94.54 GB and this would take 6 hours. Off I went and left it for 6 hours, only to find when I came back that the image size was 177 Gb when finished, more or less the same size.

Thinking I had done something wrong, I deleted the archive, and went through the process again - again choosing high compression, 94 GB, 6 hours. The result was the same.

I've been using Acronis for over a year to back up my machine and never had this problem - its always compressed fine. The only difference is my external drive is fairly new. Can anyone help or advise as to why my images are not compressing?

My PC drives are NTFS and my USB is FAT32, not sure if thats got anything to do with it.
