Free 1 Year Genuine Trend Micro Internet Security 2010 Worth a look.
I've used Avast! Home edition (Free) for many years, and have been a member of their support Forum as a Volunteer for years, so Have to agree Avast! is very, very good antivirus protection.
Personally I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.

As per my experience best antivirus is bit defender intenet security. BitDefender’s scanners run in real-time, but don’t require a lot of resources. BitDefender Antivirus installation is extremely simple and pretty intuitive. Whether you’ve purchased a box copy or are installing the software from an electronic download, the process is straightforward and easy.

If you're looking for a freeware antivirus, Antivir is great....it has high detection rate and does not slow pc down as others do...it is very responsive itself as well...In paid antivirus, I'll recommend either Kaspersky or Nod32.
