I just installed quicktime alternative because I was having trouble playing back h.264 movies using Firefox... Still couldn't get the video to play... So reading the forums I was told that I need to change some mime settings in the quicktime configuration menu.. Thing is when I click the browser tab, then select the 'mime settings' button, nothing happens.. I don't see any menu prompt, nothing... Same thing with the 'file types' option... Nothing happens... Tried uninstalled, rebooted machine, reinstalled same problem..
This is a problem for me installing both Quicktime Alternative and QT Lite...
Any idea as to why this is a problem?
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.
Thank you.

The MIME settings can not be changed on Vista and 7. You also shouldn't need to change them. If you video does not work in Firefox, then it either is not a QuickTime movie, or the QuickTime plugin is not installed correctly (type about:plugins in Firefox address bar). Perhaps you need the Adobe Flash plugin?

Then I'm unsure as to what to do then.. The videos I was trying to play were from http://odtv.me/
When I access the video I want to play, I get a prompt at the top of firefox saying that Quicktime is needed to play this video. I have the Quicktime plugin installed and enabled..
Is there some tool or way I can determine what the proper codec or plugin is needed?
Thanks for your help asdf.

That site has .mp4 files. That is disabled by default in QuickTime Alternative.
I suggest you use the download links for the files. Then you can play the videos with for example Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player.
