Media Player Classic crashes with 1.44 codecs ...due to DirextX?

Hello!

I have a problem with Media Player Classic (6.4.8.4., extra version for Windows 98) and the 1.44 codecs for RTA and QTA.

It does play everything ok, but it also crashes very often during configuration while playing, for example when I try to zoom out while it's playing a video in full screen modus. It crashes and freezes the complete system then.

During installation there was a note that I'm not using an old version of DirectX (I use 8.1) and that I should use the current one (9.0c I guess that would be).
I'm not sure if this is the reason for the crashes so I thought I'd better ask here before I completely mess up my comlete system for nothing :-).

I'm concerned if my old graphic card will be able to cope with the new DirextX at all (it's Riva TNT2 M64 PCI). The system consists of an Asus P4Pe motherboard with Intel chipset and 512MB D-DRAM and runs under Windows98SE.

Would be nice if someone could tell me more about this, as I would really like to use something else than the official players...

If all else fails, which official versions of Quicktime and RealPlayer can best be configured in a way that they don't send personal information to their publishers?

I hope that's not too much for one single post,

thanks a lot for your help,

sima

Well there have been many problems with Media Player Classic from its release a while back, with it been 'as-is' software (or whatever you call it) you just have to put up with its faults until the new version is released. I had this isnstalled a couple of weeks back and found the picture to be very jumpy when playing MPG and AVI files. Maybe you should try different media players like jetAudio or Quintissential. Honestly more of a software problem than codec. Get jetAudio, miles better. biggrin.gif
