How do I get Real Alternative to work on my computer? All I ever get is a message in MPC "Cannot render the file".
A good example is the audio clips at amazon.com - just look up any CD or use this one:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=music&n=507846
I have:
Opera 8.0 build 7561
Media Player Classic 6.4.8.4
Real Alternative 1.37
Windows XP Home
thanks!

Real Alternative and Opera likely can't handle the mime type properly.
The URL ending in ".exe" denotes an executable on the server providing the
content. (In this case... hurl.exe.RAM) Usually, browsers should not care about file extensions, but just look at the MIME type to see how the data should be handled. As there are a lot of sites which don't provide the correct MIME type, Opera has an option to look at the extension too. However in this case that does more harm than good, so Opera must be set to "Determine action by MIME type" in Preferences/File types.

The item called "Determine action by MIME type" no longer exists in Opera 8, the newest version. Nor is there a menu or window called "Preferences / File Types".
I can't find the word MIME anywhere in all of the Preferences menu in Opera 8.
I remember that Opera 7 had the choice that you refer to.
So now what do I do?
In fact, when you search the Opera Help pages for 'MIME', it sends you to a page about file associations that doesn't even mention the word MIME at all! (except in the keywords)
thanks much

Make sure upgrade to Real Alternative 1.37. The browser plugin now also supports Opera 8. Also, make sure using Media Player Classic 6.4.8.4
(fixes the bug of serving external files from certain paths.)
If doesn't work, you can always use windows media links.
