I have a bunch of .avi files I downloaded together, and none of them will work in any video player. I've installed the K-Lite Codec Pack, Divx Total Pack, and XP Codec Pack, plus more. When I look at the files in an explorer window it lists them as "video clips".

The error I get when I try to watch them in windows media player is:

QUOTE ("in windows media player")
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

When I click more info, it says:

QUOTE ("more info")
C00D1199: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

The file type is not supported by the Player. For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media Player, see Supported file types.
The file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the Player.
The file type is supported, but you are trying to play it in a way that is not supported by the Player. For example, you might have tried to drag a DVD file with a .vob extension from a DVD to the Windows Media Player icon. Or you might have tried to open a .vob file by clicking Open on the File menu.
You are trying to play one part of a multipart file. Use a newsreader or other program to combine the files, and then try again.
Error ID = 0xC00D1199, Condition ID = 0x00000000"

Does anyone have any clue as to what I need to fix this? It's episodes of a tv show I'm trying to watch, it says "Xvid" in the file names for the videos, but I've downloaded the Xvid codecs as far as I know.

Doesn't work in media player classic of divx player either.

Well, first of all (as always) use GSpot or AVIcodec and it will tell you what's the video codec in the AVI, and is it installed or not. Click to "Render" in GSpot to see, if there's any problem with the playback of the AVI. It can be corrupted.
Also check the installed codecs with GSpot or Sherlock (on XP). If there are any broken codecs related to the AVI's compression, should reinstall them.
