Hi all,
i was having problems playing certain file types (xvid mainly), i noticed using g-spot that i had codec installed multiple times so i took the advice posted in another forum and decided to delete all of the codecs and start again. I used the method described in the guide at free-codecs.com to uninstall them, although many didn't seem to uninstall, instead some sort of error message came up. Before this i had also uninstalled the various codec bundle i had installed previously. I think i also removed the windows set of codecs as well in the add/remove programs windows utility. Now i have reinstalled the codecs, just one copy of each, but none of my media players will play any file types at all. When i try to render or view the codec list in g-spot it comes up with an error saying that it has something with a miscellaneous audio codec. i don't really know what to do now, i was going to try uninstalling the whole lot again, but i'm not really convinced i did that right last time. Can anyone help!?!

Hopefully didn't uninstall everything. May want to update/re-install your audio drivers, latest DirectX 9. Windows installs specific audio codecs by default. Not sure what OS you are using?

Do custom install of K-lite codec pack or just install the codecs you need to play particular videos i.e. XVID/DIVX, DirectShow etc

...yes, first video and audio drivers, DirectX, and download Windows Media Player 9 or 10 with its codecs, or if already installed, the MS codecs only (see the pinned topic: Guide to using Codecs)

Also can check the installed codecs under System Properties/Multimedia/Video & Audio codecs.
