DIVX/XVID problems Can't uninstall them AND they lockup

Ok, the problem that started this whole thing:
XVID files will only show the first frame, the audio works fine. Whenever I try to stop the video my computer locks up completely and I have to reboot. Keyboard, mouse, complete lockup.
I'm running Windows XP

Ok, so at first I thought, video problem, this started with only one xvid file my others ran... so I tried my other videos... Nope they're broken too, so then it's a codec... Alright that's easy to fix, uninstall the old ones and reinstall the new. I did this the normal way, I use k-lite codec pack so I just uninstalled it through the add/remove programs. Reinstall K-lite... Nothing, same problem. Ok, maybe it's the codec pack, maybe that's not working. Ok... uninstall K-lite, and try Nimo. Still nothing. Crap. Ok, maybe too many codecs. Uninstall everything, and just reinstall xvid. Nope. Same problem. Something's wrong with my uninstalling I think.
I uninstall everything I can, and I open sherlock. Hmm, it seems that divx is broken, it says it was uninstalled incorrectly. Ok, maybe I can unregister it. Open up radlight and try to unregister it. Hmm.. It gives me an error: "DLLUnregister failed in : with error code 0x80004005" Well that makes no sense. Hmm. Hey, in radlight I also see a category for '3ivx Filters' Odd, I thought I uninstalled that. OK! I'll reinstall windows! Last resort...

So here I am, new install of windows, I reinstalled the codec pack (Yeah, I installed all of them, I think I was stupid) And I am no better off, 3ivx Filters is still there, and Divx decoders is still broken. I can't unregister it because when I install it, 2 divx decoders options show up, and if I unregister one, I can't unregister the other. Wierd. I have no idea what to do now, No video files will work on the computer at all.

Seems really complicated rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif
Probably can't remote-solve the problem....
TRy also unregistering the filters manually from command line and i'm just guessing, but u can't unreg. not existing filters/codecs.... u can browse in Windows Explorer, delete the .dll .ax files rolleyes.gif

TRy GSpot as well.
And .. FFDShow can solve some problems sometimes when you use an alternative player like BSPlayer, MPC, Zoom Player, VLC.

Hi,

for uninstalling something you dont want on computer, you can use "Your Uninstaller".

You will find it with any searchengine.

Its shareware, you can use it for a while for free.

Make sure, when using it, to choose the mode "force uninstall".

No guarantee, for me it was the right thing.

Check it out and decide for yourself if you want to use it.

I tried FFDshow with a few different alternative players. I got your uninstaller, but it doesn't really work any better than windows uninstaller. Still locking up. I got a program called codec sniper and got rid of the duplicate divx instance but that didn't help either, it will just reinstall twice again.

Oh yes, also I tried to unregister manually, I get the acknowledgement that it unregistered the file but it will not unregister, kind of like it's lieing to me. Windows does that sometimes.

Ok, I (sort 0f) fixed it, here's what I did, i can't say I recomend it but it was a 'last resort' for me.
I grabbed gspot and coppied all of my video codecs to a file and turned a batch file to copy all of my dlls (for backup) to a folder, unregister them, and delete them. Reboot, reinstall k-lite mega codec pack with all of the essentials and bam it works. So there was a broken codec SOMEWHERE I just dunno where.
