Codec problem?

Hi.

I have a problem viewing a few MPEG file. The sound is off i.e. it's late. I have tried different codec and nothing seems to work. I can watch all kinds of other files, new and old, mpeg and others. However these files don't work. They are all older files so maybe that has something to do with it.

I have used both videoinspector and AVIcodec recommended on these forums.

According to videoinspector the video codec is MPEG1 and the audio codec is MPEG audio 1 layer 2.

When I use the AVIcodec it says, video: MPEG (VCD) - Supported and audio: MPEG audio 1 layer 2 - Supported.

I have a hard time believing that the sound is simply off on all these files i.e. that this comes from the master recording so it must be a question of codecs right?

Any idea?

Thank you,
R.

I had a similar problem, but I solve it by DivX5.1Bundle.

Have you tried this one?

No I haven't. Where do I get that? I didn't find it in the download section on this site.

Yes audio/video lag can be a problem on source files. You can try using other codecs, but likely won't solve the problem. Usually caused by orig encoding having a sync problem or your computer can't handle playback.

or if it's not about the original encoding: too many progs running in background(?) MPEG audio layer-2 could use much CPU resources during playback. Should use an alternative player (BSPlayer or XVid;-) player). Maybe unsure.gif

I have actually tried two of the files on two seperate computers WIN2000 and WINXP, both with no programs running. I tried both files with Windows Media Player, VLC and DivX. But no luck.
