Corrupted AVI file Corrupted AVI file

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone could help me. I have an AVI file that has been damaged when encoding (the power lead came out the laptop while it was encoding) and wont play in all the software i have tryed. I have tryed using some AVI repair tools on it but most tell me thats its not an AVI file and another tells me that theres no corruptions in the file and that it must be the codec thats causing the problem.

I read about a similar problem on this site posted May 3 2005, 08:39 PM by ice man and it was suggested that he try GSpot or AVIcodec to see what codec it is and whether its installed or not but GSpot once again tells me that its not a valid AVI file and there is no codec information come up.

However i do know what codec it should have been, i was trying to encode it as "VFW MSVC Microsoft Video 1 Microsoft Corporation qcap.dll --> msvidc32.dll", which is installed on my system. i also set it as 1 frame per second width 336 and a height of 260.

Well i guess the question is is there anyway of recovering some of the data in this (70MB) file given that i know what the file was supposed to be encoded in?

Cheers in advance,
Dayle

Hi!

Well, there are tools on free-codecs.com for repairing AVIs you may try to regain some data.... :
DivFix
DivXRepair
AVIFixed
AVImedic

Always make a backup copy before applying these on the AVI.
But still it would be the best if you had the source and could encode this video again.

Cheers for the advice chp. I have tryed some of those ones before to no avail. I'll give DivXRepair a go though and see if that helps. As for the source, well lets just say it was a one off.

Well that hasnt come up with any bad frames. Its like the header that tells the software about the file (if there is such a thing in an AVI file) is missing, any ideas?
