All Videos too big and dark for all players, WHY?

Ok I use WMP, Winamp and Power DVD. Here this last week I found that every time I try to play a video of any type mpeg, wmv, and even vob. The video comes up Too big, the edge- like 2 inches all the way around the video is cut off in any mode, full or in a window and its looks real dark. I was thinking it might be a codec, but i have no idea where to start to look. I have Windows XP with SP 2 installed, all updated. I also use 2 monitors the video will play- size wise, fine on the 2nd monitor but still real dark. Have any of you even had this problem and can some one please help out. Thanks

Try checking your resolution on your primary and secondary displays... make sure they are consistent.

If the TV software dialog boxes are in diff res compared to desktop res... they will cause picture windows to be cutoff. Also, try adjusting monitor controls ie. brightness/contrast/gamma etc.

I'm actually having the same problem as well. I'm extending my desktop on to my projector (IN72) but still running each desktop independently. One is running at 1600x1200 and the other by 800x600. I run into that problem here and there with the window being too large on the projector after dragging and dropping from the main LCD monitor (1600x1200). But after I make my main monitor (1600x1200) run the desktop as the primary and turn off the windows extension for the projector whenever I play any video it's way too dark? It's as though the video players i.e. windvd, vlc player, nero showtime are keeping a memory of running on the projector and wont revert back to the other LCD monitor settings?? At one point even the sound was messed up on nero showtime and windvd, all the actors voices were super low? But now that seems to be cleared up, but not the darkness. It's only the videos I play that are too dark. Any video content on the internet runs fine and the rest of my contrast/brightness settings are fine. Anyone able to help me understand why this is happening? Thanks!

I have had the same problem with my g-force 6800. The way I fix the darkness is, open your display settings. Click the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Troubleshooting tab. If "Enable write combining" is turned on, uncheck it. restart your computer and everything should work fine. It's not a problem with the codec packs.
